About the Orthodox Tewahedo Faith

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church is one of the six Oriental Orthodox churches and has carried a faith inherited from the Apostles full of traditions, culture, and spirituality. The church is sustained by a foundation of biblical support of over 2000 years. Additionally, our traditions and practices symbolically reference the bible in various ways. For a list of some of these symbols, please visit https://stmaryeotctoronto.com/en/our-faith/#one
The words Orthodox and Tewahedo accurately convey the foundation of how we approach our faith. Ortho, meaning straight, and dox, meaning path, translates to straight path which references the unwavering nature of our doctrine. Tewahedo, meaning made one, defines and emphasizes that Christ’s divine nature and manhood are not separate, but rather united into one.
